Dean Priest is a singer and emcee from Birmingham Alabama. I have heard him over the years on various projects throughout the region providing dope guest features along the way. He has always worked his spiritual identity into his art and on this release entitled “Cynthia’s Son”, Dean displays it as a frequent motif coupled with his chill R&B(classic quiet storm.) One of the most beautiful things about this album is the fact Dean uses it as a big thank you and tribute to his mother and songs like “say” hit you right in the heart, You can feel the love and the loss. The great thing about art is the fact it allows us to often to emote feelings not so easily said in words and though this is a vocal artist it is the feeling and intent that hits you on this album. The love songs are sensual but show reverence for the object of his affection and the songs the speak on the struggles of humanity like “man” challenges the listener to do some soul searching. This album checks so many boxes, whether you need a chill quiet storm piece to set the mood or some soul stirring thoughtful crooning to meditate on while going through your day this is a keeper. We hope to hear more from Mr Priest real soon. ENJOY!
