Alexander Aksinin was a well-regarded Russian-Ukrainian printmaker and painter known for his sophisticated etching technique, precision and perfectionist attention to detail. Born in 1949, Aksinin worked as an art editor, served in the Soviet army, worked as an industrial design office.

JR is creating life size historic photographs of Ellis Island immigrants that will be pasted on the interior walls on the south side of Ellis Island. His intent is to evoke a sense of time and place and give context to the human lives that were touched by their time at Ellis Island.
